The Giver of all Good Gifts…Including Romance

I shared in earlier blogs that the longings of our hearts point us back to their Source, namely God Himself.

For instance, when we have a longing to be loved, in the midst of a fallen world where love is at best conditional, imperfect or twisted, that unfulfilled longing should lead us straight to the heart of God. The fact that our hearts long for perfect love, and yet never seem to find it, points us to the deeper questions of life:

Where does this desire originate?

Is there such a thing as perfect love?

Why would we be longing after an ideal, like “perfect love,” if it did not actually exist?

The Bible tells us, “Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God our Father.” (James 1:17, NLT)

Every good thing we experience in this broken world comes from God. He is the Giver of all good gifts. Is the desire to be loved perfectly a good thing? Of course it is. And it points us to the Author and Source of every good desire, the Divine Romancer, our Great God!

The Bible tells us, “God is love” (I John 4). He is the perfect fountain from which all human demonstrations are but a trickle.

Have you thanked Him today for all of the incredible things you enjoy in life?

Yes, I have. Thank you for the constant reminder that He is 1st and we must decrease so that He will be in the rightful place in our hearts.
