The United States of America is a Miracle

June 23rd, 2014 1 comment

americaI am preparing for my annual Freedom Sunday message coming up on July 6th. This is a time for our church family at Living Stones to remember what our founding fathers referred to as “the hand of Providence.” Of course they were making reference to what George Washington called the “divine interpositions” of Almighty God. That’s a fancy way of explaining the miraculous, supernatural intervention of God in the founding of this nation.

In an open letter to the American people, the Continental Congress acknowledged God’s amazing protection and providence as follows:

America, without arms, ammunition, discipline, revenue, government or ally, almost totally stript of commerce, and in the weakness of youth, as it were with a “staff and sling” only, dared “in the name of the Lord of Hosts,” to engage a gigantic adversary, prepared at all points, boasting of his strength, and of whom even mighty warriors were greatly afraid.” [1]

Against all odds, with no logical explanation for victory, we win!

America is a miracle.

Our Founders knew it.

Our first President knew it.

Washington wrote, “The hand of Providence has been so conspicuous in all of this that he must be worse than an infidel that lacks faith, and more than wicked, that has not gratitude enough to acknowledge his obligations.”

We must recover the knowledge of our supernatural birth as a nation and express our gratitude to God for all He has done to bless and prosper us, lest we continue to be a nation governed by faith-less infidels.
